Eco Mission
The Port Philip EcoCentre's organizational structure and philosophy
is founded on a strong partnership between community and local government.
As such, the EcoCentre has been developed to create a blueprint
which could be adopted in other regions.
The EcoCentre is a community-managed environment group that implements
its own environmental projects and programs including curriculum-based
education; and supports smaller groups within the region.
There is no actual line on the map to define this region. Rather,
it is determined by the extent that groups consider the EcoCentre
to be of practical relevance to their interests.
In practical terms, the EcoCentre occupies a niche between smaller
community environment groups with a specific local interests and
wider regional or groups that are geared to operate at a state or
national level.
Keys to success and credibility at the local - regional level
are:
- The ability to form and maintain networks
- Clear and respectful communications
- Recognition as a reliable source of ‘'local knowledge'
