Multicultural Coast Ambassadors

Meet the EcoCentre’s new Coastal Ambassadors!

We are thrilled to be working with three young people from culturally diverse backgrounds as our new Coastal Ambassadors. Together with these ambassadors, the EcoCentre will develop culturally inclusive activities that connect people with coastal care and inspire local environmental action amongst Melbourne’s growing multicultural communities.

We live in a diverse society with approximately one-third of all households in Melbourne speaking two or more languages. Through this program, we aim to enhance our understanding through a cultural lens and nurture leadership for long term coastal and environmental action.

Brisa Yonzon

Brisa is a recent graduate of Environmental Science from RMIT University, who is eager to get hands on experience in sustainability programs. Brisa values her roots and a sense of belonging, and looks forward to share her learnings with her Nepalese community. With various experience in leadership roles and student mentoring, Brisa is an enthusiastic communicator with a bright and friendly nature.

Chenxin Tu

Chenxin is a Year 10 student at The Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School and a devoted member of the school’s Environment Committee. She has been an active volunteer in the EcoCentre’s Be the Re-Generation Program, where she helped protect biodiversity in Port Phillip Bay. Growing up in a rural area of China, Chenxin has a deep connection to nature and wishes to see more ways we can balance urban life with the natural world. Her friends would describe Chenxin as a passionate, bubbly and creative individual with an extremely eccentric mind. (Photo: live mollusc survey with our Baykeeper)

Oscar Chen

Oscar is a Year 10 student at Melbourne High School. He has a Chinese background and speaks both Cantonese and Mandarin. Oscar was also active in our Be the Re-Generation Project, where he enjoyed learning about the local flora and fauna around Port Phillip Bay. His goal is to develop skills to bring urban communities together and create a greater respect for our natural environment. In his spare time, Oscar enjoys reading and playing games.
