Bay Fund Grantwriting Bee

Event date:
Tuesday, 16 January 2018 - 9:30am
Event location:
Grantwriting Bee, 9:30-12:30

Community groups, schools and organisations interested in protecting the health of Port Phillip Bay are invited to join us in a collaborative workshop to brainstorm, refine or progress Port Phillip Bay Fund Round 2 applications (due 14 February). $3.5 million of funding is available.

Ideas shared in the workshop are in confidence, and in good faith.

The EcoCentre is running this workshop voluntarily without funding because we genuinely believe the best, most effective and enjoyable projects are collaborative in design and delivery!

In this workshop you will:
  • Hear a brief overview of application process - with Q&A (we hope to get a DELWP officer there)
  • Meet other groups to share what you can offer, and what you still need to solidify your project - so the group can help suggest partners or resources, or identify new collaborations
  • Be able to discuss or practice your pitch, for feedback from the EcoCentre's experienced grant writers
  • Learn about the EcoCentre's brand-new Citizen Science Rubric if you would like to test a citizen science method for its scientific rigour, engagement and education potential.
General Grants Panel tips after Round 1

In the first grant round, we have heard that the Grants Panel identified a few general themes that could improve applications (which can include modified versions of Round 1 unsuccessful submissions) including:

  1. demonstrate understanding what others in the Bay catchments are doing on your key issue, and position your project to complement/collaborate -- ESPECIALLY re litter
  2. demonstrate a resulting practical application, or stakeholder commitment to use data if your project collects data - projects MUST directly improve Bay Health
  3. be clear on the roles and responsibilities of project partnerships
Quiet workspace afternoon

We will also keep the room booked for the afternoon if anyone wants to sit quietly and work on their drafts. EcoCentre WIFI is available.
