Buildings and Environment
Buildings are a fundamental to human habitat; the way we live,
and our future. They can be homes, workplaces, places of recreation,
and places of education.
But they are also a major part of our impact on ecosystem services.
They take up space and are constructed from materials that were
previously habitat for other species.
As a consequence, growth of the human population equates to increased
modification of ecosystems and concomitant loss of species. For
this reason, it is imperative that we consider resource conservation
in the design, construction, and use of buildings.
