Allison Shanahan

Allison has worked as a Primary School teacher for 13 years, developing a passion for environmental education and sustainable living. She is an all-round lover of thinking and learning how to act regeneratively to care for our Earth.

With experience as a Sustainability Coordinator in school settings, Allison has implemented the ResourceSmart Schools Program, and developed Environment Management Plans and policies. She has established student action teams to create veggie patches, fruit tree orchards and indigenous gardens. She aims to empower young people to take ownership of their learning, connect with their community and environment and to act to make a difference.

Allison enjoys making authentic connections and sharing rich literature with others to nurture a sense of wonder and curiosity about our natural environment. She is inspired by the positive and practical ethics of permaculture, Superadobe architecture, climate craftism, edible weeds and foraging, nature play and building circular economies.

The EcoCentre acknowledges the Kulin Nations, including the Yalukut Weelam clan of the Boon Wurrung language group, traditional owners of the land on which we are located.

We pay respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to other Aboriginal and Elder members of our multicultural community.
