Potentially a world-first, Caulfield Primary School has installed a bilingual compost system with signage in both English and Japanese.
The Student Environment Club designed the signs so students could understand what does and doesn't belong in the compost bins in both languages.
Thanks to everyone who attended the last Teacher Environment Network Meeting on 30 October hosted by the wonderful Tim Mc Rae at Gardenvale Primary School! We explored the topic of Biodiversity by the Bay.
St Joseph’s students joined hands-on catchment care to raise $20,000 through Living Water Workbees, allowing them to install rainwater tanks and a raingarden of indigenous plants, funded through the Victorian Government’s Port Phillip Bay Fund. 85% of the water used in St Joseph’s Primary School (Elsternwick) is now supplied from their tanks; and during heavy rain, stormwater is slowed and filtered by the gardens before flowing to our Bay.

We have to look to the future
Tomorrow's Leaders for Sustainability (TLfS) is a program where an EcoCentre educator will work with the same group of students (up to 25) for a whole term, guiding them through sustainability curriculum, leadership activities, sustainability projects and spending time helping them investigate their local environments.
Our Educator will work with the school's contact teacher to confirm the sustainability topic for your TLfS and to develop the term-long planner.
Free professional learning events each term for school and ELC educators, support staff and parents to network, share resources and connect to the local environment. A wide range of topics are covered with a focus on embedding sustainability and environment education in classroom teaching.
The EcoCentre acknowledges the Kulin Nations, including the Yalukut Weelam clan of the Boon Wurrung language group, traditional owners of the land on which we are located. We pay respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to other Aboriginal and Elder members of our multicultural community.
