Emma Giakoumatos PhD

Emma is passionate about solving problems, facilitating progress and driving change through translation of science into the public sphere, and strategic project work. Emma holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry and is currently a Senior Adviser in the Ministerial Liaison Office at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency. Over the past 10 years Emma has been an advocate of sound diversity and inclusion practices and previously held a board position on an organisation advocating for gender diversity in STEM fields. Emma has also previously volunteered in landcare and revegetation projects.

Emma is motivated to contribute to meaningful discourse and action on protecting the environment, sustainable practices, and enabling community members to be involved in their local area. Further, having a background in scientific research and experience in issues management, Emma is motivated to apply her enthusiasm for the organisational objectives of the EcoCentre and interdisciplinary skills to the EcoCentre’s Committee of Management.

The EcoCentre acknowledges the Kulin Nations, including the Yalukut Weelam clan of the Boon Wurrung language group, traditional owners of the land on which we are located.

We pay respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to other Aboriginal and Elder members of our multicultural community.
