Dune Profiling_Baykeeper

The Beachkeepers are back! Just in time for planting season. Join us for our first community planting event of the year guided by the Port Phillip Baykeeper.

This exciting initiative aims to protect and preserve our coastal dune environments and prevent coastal erosion. Coastal dunes play a crucial role in defending against erosion and storm surges, and they also provide essential habitats for a variety of plant and animal species. By taking part in our community planting event, you'll be making a meaningful difference in preserving these valuable ecosystems.

During the event, we will be mapping the coastal vegetation cover along our dunes and noting the specific elevations above sea level that different species inhabit. This important data will inform future planting strategies in response to rising sea levels and ensure that our efforts are tailored to the unique conditions of our local environment.

As a thank you for your contribution, we will be hosting a celebratory lunch at the EcoCentre following the event from 12pm. This will be a great opportunity to connect with other volunteers, celebrate our achievements, and learn more about the important work being done to protect our environment. So come on down and get involved in this important community initiative! Whether you're a seasoned green thumb or a first-time planter, there's something for everyone at McGregor St Dunes. We can't wait to see you there!

The Port Phillip EcoCentre acknowledges the support of Coastcare Victoria and the Victorian Government.
