Dune Profiling_Baykeeper

Let’s come together to explore and discover the wonderful wildlife and local flora nestled in some of the oldest sand dunes of Port Phillip Bay.

The EcoCentre invites you to take part in the City Nature Challenge; a global event where cities around the world are collaborating to share observations of the unique animals and plants that also call the city home.

Help put Port Melbourne on the map of this international coming together of nature lovers and spotters alike in an odyssey of documentation and discovery. This event is part of the City Nature Challenge four day Bioblitz using the iNaturalist app.

Adventure with us into some of the oldest dunes of Port Phillip Bay. This location harbours a variety of native invertebrates that attract diverse birdlife. You may see Little Pied Cormorant, Long-billed Corella and Chestnut Teal and we really hope that one of our participants are the first to record a Superb Fairywren. We know they are in the area but do not have proof that they pass through this patch and we’d love you to be the first to sight one and be able to share that good news story with our community.

So join us on this biodiversity sighting spectacular and make your mark on the City Nature Challenge. Let’s continue the conversation around how we can improve habitat for small bird populations and the overall biodiversity in this area.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to make a difference in our coastal environment. We hope to see you at our next family friendly Beachkeepers session soon!

Please remember to wear appropriate clothing for all weather conditions and to bring a hat, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle.

We would like to acknowledge the project support provided by the Victorian Government through the Port Phillip Bay Fund.
