Join us in exploring the unique and critical Indigenous flora and ecosystems among the Coastal Dune Scrub and Grassy Woodland Plains of the community-led native vegetation site at St Kilda West Beach.
Community members come together at one of our iconic local beaches to engage in monitoring and protection of our foreshore environment. Participants will learn to identify local native plants of the Dune Scrub and Saltmarsh communities; their role in stabilising coastlines; and learn about the history of these community-led native vegetation sites.
PPEC will help participants identify local native plants and their ecological role, and enable them to actively participate in our conservation, planting and propagation activities.
Dune Profiling Activities will help the Port Phillip Baykeeper, Neil Blake to monitor sand surface levels and map coastal vegetation cover, noting the specific elevations above sea level that different species inhabit. This information will inform future planting strategies responding to rising sea levels.
