School Sustainability Festival

The School Sustainability Festival is an annual event organised by the Port Phillip EcoCentre to provide local schools and their communities an opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge their environmental and student leadership achievements within City of Port Phillip, Bayside City Council, City of Stonnington and City of Glen Eira.

Now in its 19th year, the School Sustainability Festival is Victoria’s longest running school sustainability festival celebrating and empowering student leadership for our environment.

Expressions of interest for this years event will open in Term 2 and are available to schools in the City of Port Phillip, Bayside City Council, City of Stonnington and the City of Glen Eira.

Please register your interest via the form at the bottom of this page

At this event, environmental leaders from participating schools present a workshop on a sustainability topic or initiative to peers from other schools. The day also includes an awards ceremony and afternoon of fun activities run by the EcoCentre and special guest organisations.

Schools are invited to bring up to 10 student leaders. Attendance is free.

We have implemented a new cap on student numbers per school in order to be able to accommodate more schools at this event. If you require support in order to attend, or need to accommodate a larger group size, please get in touch and we will do our best to make this accessible to you.

I wanted to say congratulations to you and your team on a fantastic day. My class had an amazing time and haven’t stopped talking about it!
Siobhan O’Dwyer, Teacher at St Joseph’s Primary School, Malvern
I enjoyed giving presentations because seeing people learning is exciting! I enjoyed what we did at the botanical gardens because hearing about different interconnected issues from a range of people was very fun and engaging!

We were so excited to be part of this holistic, community based event. It was an exceptional opportunity for our students! The technical support was outstanding and the one to one support on the day and prior to the event was superb
Melanie, Teacher at Mungkarta Homelands Learning Centre, Northern Territory
I had a great day attending the festival! A couple of my favourite activities were the fish friendly paints and the part where we got to learn about animals. I would definitely do it again if I had the opportunity!

Expressions of Interest

Please note, in order to accommodate as many schools as possible we are capping student numbers at 10 per school.  If you need support in order to attend, or require a larger group size, please get in touch and we will do our best to make this day accessible to you.

We will have some reserved places for schools attending the event for the first time as well as allocating places for returning schools who offer student-led workshops. We will be in touch with schools to confirm places at the start of Term 3.

We encourage schools to present as part of the Kids Teaching Kids model of the festival.

The EcoCentre acknowledges the Kulin Nations, including the Yalukit Willam clan of the Boon Wurrung language group, traditional custodians of the land on which we are located.

We pay respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to other First Nations and Elder members of our multicultural community.
