Prof Kathryn Bowen

Kathryn Bowen is Professor of Environment, Climate & Global Health at Melbourne University and Deputy Director of Melbourne Climate Futures. She is a leading, internationally-recognised expert on the science and policy of sustainability (particularly climate change) and global health issues, with 20 years experience in original public health research, science assessment, capacity development and policy advice. Her career highlight to date has been her work as Lead Author on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Report, Health Chapter.

Kathryn thrives on interdisciplinary, energetic and stimulating work environments where the emphasis is on implementing policy-relevant and evidence-based sustainability programs. Although she works regularly for international agencies such as WHO, UNEP and DFAT, Kathryn considers local, community-led work such as the EcoCentre’s to be critical to the world’s response to climate change and health.

The EcoCentre acknowledges the Kulin Nations, including the Yalukit Willam clan of the Boon Wurrung language group, traditional custodians of the land on which we are located.

We pay respects to their Elders past and present, and extend that respect to other First Nations and Elder members of our multicultural community.
